Quirky, funny, nasty, silly, serious, whatever your post may be, the words are yours. Every correct entry gives you 1 point." Nifty idea. Lotsa crazy fans. Even cooler are Apronyms: Acronyms' Particular Relevancy Often Notify Your Meaning Strongly. And also - Apronyms: Apt Phrases, Redolent Of Novel Yet Meaningful Sense.

So I haven't blogged in a while. Big deal! Life's good and busy. Went to a distant relative's wedding reception on Saturday to NYC and then stayed over at my mama & mami's place in Queens. Got back home last night, checked my email, watched a little TV, and went to bed. Lotsa tiny things happening in between, some memorable, some iffy. Gonna get my math result tonight - quite anxious.

So I want to see the movie Comedian by Jerry Seinfeld, one of my fav. comedians ever. I found out about the movie via a post about this article on Fark about the death of the lady whose voiced the 'wrong number' telephone message. It's always like this - one thing leads to another. Gotta love surfing.

So anyways, two days from now, July 30th, will be my 3rd year in US. Wow time passes away so fast. I just hope I don't get all sentimental on that day again. Ok back to work.

Tonight I sadly found out I've been an unforgivably bad friend. There are some things you cannot fix after they've been broken. Sorry doesn't work always. You can't make an apology because you don't deserve a hearing. A friend will love you for the rest of your life no matter how bad, wrong, sad, or angry you are. But you are not a good friend if you don't listen. I didn't listen when I was supposed to. All of a sudden life isn't that good anymore. It's nobody's fault - just mine. I don't know what to do except keep my ears open. Hope I get a second chance...

So my computer @ work is undergoing usual maintenance etc. so I got a few mins to kill. First up, bad first lines of novels. Pretty funny. Sometimes my blog even sounds like it. Next, the US budget is pretty much screwed. Economy's gonna go bad though one of my friends (stockbroker) tells me the stock market's gonna go up in next six months. Let's sit back and see. Sit back, cuz well, I don't really have any investments, so nothing's @ stake here.

Anyways, things are back to hectic. I called up my home (Calcutta) last night and talked to everyone except my dad :( Well he was @ work. And this morning I get an email from him saying he doesn't love me anymore because I didn't call him up on his b'day :( Guess I have no excuse. I had talked to him just 3-4 days earlier too. So I thought I'll call after a week and talk in detail. And now he is not talking to me anymore. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DADDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew it was coming all along and I knew how much it was gonna be, but I kept hoping it wouldn't be as bad as it turned out to be - my tuition fees for year 2003-2004 :( It's about $7500 for Fall 2003 and a similar amount for Spring 2004. My first semester at Rutgers was less than $5200 in Fall 2000. This year I gotta pay $2000 more than I did last year. What a wicked coincidence that starting today, my salary has increased by $2/hr (= $2000/year). So what I make extra at my job at Rutgers, I give it back to Rutgers as tuition. It's a vicious circle - I work, I study, I remain poor. Thankfully, CSL's doing good so I'm not in a do-or-die situation yet.

What about "1 Meter DVI-I Male To Male Dual" Ewwwwww I don't even wanna guess. Maybe I just have a really dirty mind. LOL. The reason why I want a DVI cable is that my new video card, which by the way is totally awesome, has a digital output and my monitor has digital input - meaning if I use a DVI cable, my screen will be a lot lot sharper than it is right now. At 1280x1024, sharpness matters a lot. Hope I find something nice 'n cheap :)

Last night I barely saw the fireworks. Cuz well I was driving and as usual, got lost - this time, in the infamous Jersey City at midnight. Yeah, don't do this. Ever. Phew I'm just glad I made it back. Took me over 2 hours to get back home. But it's not because I'm a bad driver or anything, but mainly cuz all the exits to the Jersey Turnpike were closed for some reason and we (My cuzin Sneh, her friend Vic, and myself) had to drive allllll over Jersey City before we made it home. But hey, the fireworks were definitely worth it. We saw 3 different displays for about 25-30 mins and I got to drive for over 6 hours!

This morning my aunt left me back @ my bunker. I miss living @ home. I swear! And I know this sounds really corny but my aunt is definitely the best aunt ever :) I am literally her son. I love her sooooo much. I talked to her for a while and then I became all homesick. So I called up my parents and talked to them. And my rich diamond-jewelry-buying sister. Yeah she just bought herself more jewelry, kinda like this. Damn rich people! Hehehe...

Anyways, now I SERIOUSLY have to work. No, SERIOUSLY. So ya, no 'blogging for a while.

Just got home a few mins ago; had gone up to Hoboken, NJ to see Cigir (Cher). The view of the New York skyline so breathtaking that as soon as I arrived there I realized it was a mistake to forget my digi-cam @ home. However, I didn't even know where Hoboken was and just went cuz Cigir assured me it's pretty. So there we were for 4 hours... mid-summer night, beautiful weather, slight sea-breeze wafting in from the Hudson bay, some good food at some unknown Italian restaurant, and a hint of Bacardi (amazing site by the way). I hadn't seen her in over a month and a half; felt good to catch up on "ish."

I still haven't gone to NYC with her though we planned looooong ago. Well maybe next week...? Problem she works on weekends and I worked on weekdays and weekends. Hehe. Tomorrow being a holiday I was able to go out tonight. Somehow I don't think I'll have too many nightmares tonight. Heh.

Here are 10 best things about US and to keep things in balance, here are 911 things to hate about US. While I don't agree with either of the lists 100%, out of the 10 best things, the following really hit a nerve:

"In America the destiny of the young is not given to them but created by them.: Not long ago, I asked myself, "What would my life have been like if I had never come to the United States?" If I had remained in India, I would probably have lived my whole life within a five-mile radius of where I was born. I would undoubtedly have married a woman of my identical religious and socioeconomic background. I would almost certainly have become a medical doctor, or an engineer, or a computer programmer. I would have socialized entirely within my ethic community. I would have a whole set of opinions that could be predicted in advance; indeed, they would not be very different from what my father believed, or his father before him. In sum, my destiny would to a large degree have been given to me." - Dinesh D'Souza

To the average reader, he is just another minstrel singing patriotic songs about the US for the upcoming 4th of July weekend. But delve a bit deeper and you realize that even though the Indian-born author only talks good about US, the article seems to be his way of justifying the burning question within himself (and everyone like him, including me) - why did he leave India and his family to come to the US? I used to think that once I've been here long enough, the guilt of leaving my family, friends, and all that I loved, for a better future in US, will vanish. It's far from the truth. While I have adjusted pretty well to the American life, every once in a while the question begs an answer - is money, career, education, name, fame (insert materialistic goals here) really worth leaving what God gave you?

Sometimes I think yes, sometimes I think no. I used to think well I'll get the answer the day I make my first billion. Now I think I'll never get the answer - frankly because this isn't a question/answer, it's an irresolvable conflict. On one hand I could have been happily married by now in India but in truth I will prolly be single for many more years to come. On the other hand, I wasn't satisfied by the education, computer-projects, and business contacts there, but am more than satisfied with everything here. So ya, the confusion and conflict remains. In the meantime, I go out and see Cigir after a LONG time :)

The first divorce directly related to the World Trade Center attacks? Prolly fake but quiet amusing. After you read it, you feel really sorry for the wife and mad at the husband. But nobody looks at it the other way - this is such a great case in favor of having a mistress :-P The only reason the man is still alive is because he was cheating! He should be congratulated for cheating rather than despised for being alive. If he was on his way to some veterinary hospital after rescuing a puppy, everybody would say a noble deed saved his life. But when an immoral deed saved his life, nobody wants to sympathize. Think about it.

I was just talking to my work-buddy Chris (the awesome guy who's helping me make my new pc) and he asked me to check out his site. While the design is decent, and the grid seems appropriate (this being a science project and all), I told him it's pretty hard for amatuers to use grids etc. and not end up with a cheesy looking site. Designing a website is like working with tools to build a house. Effects like 'grid' and 'drop-shadow' are akin to chainsaws and power drills - only the most experienced can use them well, though they generally avoid using them altogether. Ever worked on a little house project? Even your 5 year old wanted to use the cool power drill? Right? Ya that's the problem with web design too - the coolest effects are just too tempting. Even as Flash is becoming more and more popular, the aesthetics of a good design are still the same - clean, sharp, and warm without snazzy effects. And of course, one much pay utmost attention to the typography.
