I'm @ my sis Khushboo's house. We just returned from a nice walk at the Lokhandwala complex. Boy was it hot outside! I think I like this room and the fast ceiling fan much better than the clothes shops :)

And it took me 50 minutes to write all this! Whoa! I gotta wake up early tomorrow cuz I have to go to my mama's (mom's bro's) house. I love being there in Kandivali... Ahhhhh I miss it sooo much, but good to know within a few hours I'll be there. Hey wait a minute, I just realized I miss Calcutta too, oh and I miss New Jersey too. Now as soon as I go to Kandivali, I'll miss proper Bombay and when I goto Calcutta I'll miss Bombay and Kandivali. God anywhere I go, I end up missing the other great places... Now if only I could be in more than one place @ the same time... hehehe...

What a great time to write my 'blog! Well it's been kinda hard to come online, mainly because I am having so much fun here in Bombay ;) My cuzin bro Keval and sis Nikita are both fast asleep behind me right now and I gotta be extra careful not to type loudly. Hehe. Reminds me of my first few weeks in US when I used to share my cuzin Sagar's room. Oh and a 10^10^10^10^10^10 thanks to everyone who emailed me saying that they want to read more about the stuff that's happened since I left US.
So lemme start from the very beginning. My flight from Newark to Bombay via Amsterdam was pretty exhausting. Although it was not terrible, it was still pretty uncomfortable, mostly because of the total lack of leg-room. But the 4 hours that I got to spend @ the Amsterdam airport were quite cool. I met this Russian chic Kitana (weird name) and had the world's worst glass of Coke. Too bad she had to take a different flight :( The funny thing is, she thought I was a Latino and not an Indian. Hehe. Of course then I proved my Indianhood by talking in the famous Simpsons character Apu's typical Indian accent.
Flight to Bombay was pretty good, mostly because I slept through half of it. I had some red wine, and now I know why scientists say a little of it is good for your health. The reason is - IT GODDAMN BURNS YOUR WHOLE CIRCULATORY & RESPIRATORY SYSTEM! Of course, I loved every second of it, but still, it was pretty unexpected, cuz I thought wine would be nice and sober, not hot. After I landed in Bombay, it took me over one hour to get my luggage and during that time I noticed that the famous Indian actress Rekha had been on my flight too! Somehow she got her luggage within the first 5 minutes. Ahhh the joys of being a celebrity... As soon as I came out of the airport, I saw my cuzin Keval, Paresh uncle, Ruskin mama & Family, Khushboo, Niyati, Baboo and god knows how - my buddy Vishal! I was like... err... he does NOT fit into the picture since he's supposed to be in Calcutta. Turns out he came here on a business trip and decided to drop by exactly @ the time of my flight. Hehe. No wonder I'm a happy man - my family & friends love me.
Now on 28th, I went high-quality-expensive-traditional Indian clothes shopping all around the city but didn't like much. Then went to meet a few relatives @ night. The fun part of the day was sitting in the car with Nikita and see her drive... Trust me it's gotta be one of the most thrilling rides in the world, even more adrenaline pumping than those roller-coaster monsters in theme parks.
On 29th (almost today), I went shopping once again and met my uncle's sister (that is my dad's sister's husband's sister) who took me around to a few more good clothes stores. I picked a nice dress for cuzin Sneh and my aunt and two for Sagar. The measurements/stitching/etc. will be ready in 2-3 weeks. I'm thinking of getting something for myself too, but not very sure. Maybe I'll get something custom-tailored in Calcutta. Then later in the evening, I met Nikita's fiance Mehul and we went to a really good fast food place - Cream C**** (it's too late for me to remember that right now). Anyway the food was good and it was great hanging out w/ the future bro-in-law. The neatest part came afterwards when we four (Mehul, Niki, Keval, and me) went to this roof-top hang-out-type restaurant called Koyla (which means 'coal' in Hindi). We just sat there for over two hours and chatted random stuff, mostly me telling my corny jokes :) Hehe. But it was all fun and in the end, we decided that I needed to stay more in Bombay and that just one day that I got to spend with everyone, is not enough. Let's see... there'll be a big debate in Calcutta soon. Hehehehe...
After Koyla, Mehul left for his house, we came home, Niki started talking to Mehul non-stop on her cell, I introduced Keval to the raw genius of Office Space that I have on my hard disk, and I worked out for 45 mins and did my regular 1000 half-crunches :) By god I'm tired right now. After my exercise, I checked my email and started this 'blog.

Wooohooooo!!! I made it to Bombay! The flight was decent. I have sooooooo much stuff to do today, so many ppl to meet. I'll prolly find time to write in detail later tonight :)

Packing started @ 10 am, packing done @ 12 noon :) My aunt's pretty good with all this stuff. Thankfully the bags are not exploding because of grossly overpacked unwanted material... I'm only taking the essentials :) Oh my! Even after 12+ hours, my hard drive cloning process is STILL going on! Well it's a LOT of data and systems to setup. But it's ok. Will be done within a couple of more hours hopefully... Now I go downstairs to workout one last time before I set sail for home... ah... home sweet home...

Thus I can continue to work on my software, websites, emails etc. without any problems :) I pray that I don't get any major hardware errors...

- If you're a bear, you get to hibernate. You do nothing but sleep for six months. I could deal with that.
- Before you hibernate, you're supposed to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that, too.
- If you're a bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you're sleeping and wake to partially grown, cute cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that.
- If you're a mama bear, everyone knows you mean business. You swat anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too. I could deal with that.
- If you're a bear, your mate EXPECTS you to wake up growling. He EXPECTS that you will have hairy legs.
- Yup..... I wanna be a bear.

Anyways, so I went to Queens in NY yesterday to visit my mom's bro and his family. The commute is LONG - almost 4 hours each way! First I take the bus, then the train, then the subway, and then the bus. And I get back the same way (obviously reversed). But it was well worth it! I got to meet my uncle & aunt and their two daughters Priyanka & Jenesha. Both has seriously become so much taller since the last time I saw them. We saw the movie Aankhen starrin' Amitabh Bachchan and lots others. It was a pretty funny movie but too bad it didn't end in 100% happiness (unlike Hera Pheri). Overall it was fun. Then for dinner we went to Pizza Hut (like all Desi Indian families should - hehe). I slept over and left for NJ @ 7:30 am this morning and came here @ 11:30. Ah the long torturous commute. Hehe. Now I need to go and take a nice shower, have some food, and I think... start packing! Yay!!! 6 more days...

Some people, like Stephen Wolfram, are eccentric geniuses... while some like David Levy are just plain brilliant. I just read the Wolfram article (REALLY LONG) and am thoroughly impressed by the guy. He may/may-not be the next Asimov or Sagan, but his ideas are certainly revolutionary. Sometimes I wonder if I want to be like Wolfram, a thinker who redefines existence as we know it, or like Levy, who makes life just a bit more easier by being just a little more innovate to push the technology just a bit further. I hope the latter.

Today is a good day for science, actually computers. This BBC article talks about UK's first major exhibition of video games running at the Barbican Gallery in London until September. Scroll to the middle of the page and you'll see: ZX Spectrum, a tiny little keyboardized computer that in 1989-90 changed the course of my life forever. According to the article:
"The ZX Spectrum was one of the first affordable home computers and played a big role in the creation of the 'geek', a person (usually a man) that derived immense pleasure out of computer coding in their bedrooms."
Yes I am a victim. I never owned ZX Spectrum, but one of my dad's friends did and I used to go to his house just to make stupid circle and boxes on his TV screen using the 'computer'. I was 'supposed' to play video games on it, but I ended up teaching myself BASIC at the ripe age of 10 (I think). Yes, this is how innocent happy childhoods are destroyed and devious one-tracked socially-devoid teenage minds are born. Haha. I'm talking bad stuff about myself right now! LOL. Just kidding.
What I mean is, just because I found the ZX Spectrum, I fell in love with computers. Now I might not be the best programmer out there, but I still think I am pretty good with computers. It's kinda sad/sorry/weird/odd/nerdy/geeky/spiffy/blah-blah-adjectives, but yeah my whole life has been influenced by computers and although things haven't been hard, they have been different from what most people go through. I mean while at 17 my friends were worried about whether their crushes like them or not, I was worrying if I could finish the Hind 2000 email client before someone else released their dummy version of it.
Funny thing is, I am 21 right now and I'm still having the same problems. Don't believe me? Well although I agree that 'Imitation is the highest form of flattery,' I resent the fact that this asinine company literally stole the design of this site that I made (actually still making)! Now technically I can unleash a wicked demon upon them to pretty much ruin their site, but I think I'll control myself this time. After all, the site they came up with even after copying me, is pretty crappy! Haha. Time for me to go to bed... Good night sweet world :) Good night ZX :) Good night Helen... mmm....

Everybody knows I'm not a big Mac/Apple fan. But today I went to CompUSA on Route 1 and I saw the Apple 22-inch Cinema Display running on OS X. I have to shamefully admit it, that it was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen in my entire life. Seriously. I don't have words to describe how amazing, surreal, and exceptionally gorgeous the system was. Ya I know it's SAD that I'm talking about a computer like it's some Sports Illustrated swimsuit chic, but you have to see the thing to believe me... Now if only I had $5000 spare lying around somewhere, I would buy myself one of these... I would prolly never use it, cuz as I said, I don't use Macs, I'm a Windows guy, but I just want to own this Mac machine... it's like Batmobile - even though nobody can drive it on the traffic-jammed highways, everybody would love to own it.

I don't know why but somehow my family here loves to mow the lawn. It's kinda weird. Every 3-4 days we end up mowing a lawn! Today right after dinner uncle/aunt decided to go outside to mow the lawn between 7-9 pm! This time the grass wasn't even 3 inches! But oh well, forecasters say it's gonna rain all weekend, so it's better to cut the grass before it grows to a foot, cuz that can be a pain... So uncle/aunt/me/bro cut 75% tonight and the rest yours truly will finish tomorrow :) Ahhhhhhh..... I need a twin/clone/slave. LOL.

WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!! I just called my Calc3 teacher and he told me I got an A! Whoa! That's some good news. So right now I know that I got A in 4 classes (2 honors, Linear, and Calc). Now the only grade I don't know is Computer Science - Discrete Structures. Even if I get a C in it, I'm still good :) Hehehe... Chances of me getting an A in that are 1 in 10000000. But I think I 'might' get a B+ if I'm lucky... *pray pray pray*

Call me stupid, but it just doesn't make sense to me and I can't understand what the author is trying to say here. Why can't authors learn that when a person is trying to read a newspaper (online or offline) the language should be simple and clear? As I said before, I'm sure the author knows what she's saying; now if only I knew what she's saying too...

Oh my god, this is sooo weird. Just 2 hours ago I mentioned my aunt bought a GameCube (for $199) and just now I found out that Sony cut PlayStation's price by $100 to $199 now and Nintendo announced that they'll not reduce GameCube's $199 price anymore. So now PlayStation 2 and GameCube are both available @ the same price and we just bought a GameCube! What weird luck. Well it's from WalMart, so we can definitely go and return it and get the PlayStation 2 in exchange in case my bro decides he wants the faster/neater/dvd-enabled Ps2 :)

First of all, I sold most of my books back and believe it or not, I made a profit in my Calculus books! I bought the Calc books in Jan 2001 for total of $51 and I sold them back today for $81 after using them for over a year and a half! Now THAT is my definition of AWESOME! Of course Calc did take away many-a-nights-of-sleep from me. Hehe...
Oh and I just talked to my parents!!! I called them up and talked for like 15 minutes on my dad's cell. Ahhhhhhhhh I just can't wait anymore... 12 days to go... Oh and my bro Sagar doesn't know it yet but my aunt just bought a GameCube (Nintendo) for him! He's gonna be surprised :) Hehe. It's right here under my desk. Hehehehe...

Google can now find phone numbers too! Goto Google Phone Book search and type any name and place, like 'mcdonalds nj' and it'll list the phone numbers of all the McDonalds in New Jersey. The basic format is 'company cityname' or 'company state'. Also you can search for individuals too. Hehe. Pretty neat actually. VERY helpful indeed.
Studying for linear. Going to bed soon.

After taking over Afghanistan and Middle East, President Bush has decided to take over the Olympics. Seriously. The Scotsman reports that "The president also enjoys boasting about his running times, reporting a personal best of three miles in an impressive six minutes, 45 seconds." That's VERY impressive if you ask me, considering the world record is a little under 4 minutes for 1 mile! Seems like Bush can run nearly 30mph or 50km/hr. I didn't know being president gave you superpowers! If Bush got superspeed, I bet Clinton had X-ray vision.

Anyways, today was the last day of college! Yay! Now I have exams on 9, 12, and 14 May. Then I am a free bird :) Tonight, tomorrow, and day after I study for Linear Algebra... then it's Calculus and then Computer. Oh Calculus... reminds me... today was prolly the last class I'll ever have with Kathleen, Vicky, and Jim. And most prolly Steve too. Jim and Vicky were with me for 2 terms and Kath had been for three! In fact she's the first person I met after transferring to Rutgers New Brunswick in Jan 2001. I've already missed Ross and Steph a hell lot throughout this term. And on top of it I'm now gonna miss all the bad Calculus jokes I made and all the fake laughter from my 'friends'. Haha... Ah... it's the end of an era... Next term I have 5 interesting classes... I'll meet more new people... but first... We all gotta get through the damned final exams!
Of course summer's going to be heaven! I think I've begun to hallucinate a lot lately. I keep thinking I am already @ home in Calcutta! Hehehe... This morning I woke up dreaming that I was in my room back home... then realized I was here in US... oh well, I love being in both places! Hehehe... I know one thing for sure, as soon as I reach India, I'll miss New Jersey. I've begun to love this place...

The search for Mustard Man continues. Someone reported that this guy looks very much like the original Mustard Man. I think we might have found the oh-so-elusive Mustard Man. Or may be not! Who knows. After all it took a long time to find the real 'Tourist Guy'. Haha.

Artificial stone slabs found to be over 120 million years old! Maybe the dinosaurs were smarter than we thought! Haha. But no, if this thing is true then our whole perspective of technology, intelligence, and existence will change.

In the comp. lab right now. Today's the last day of college. Yay! Of course there's three days of exams coming up, but it's all good. I've a doctor's appointment on Wednesday to get all those damn injections before I leave for India. I don't want to fall sick you know... hehe.

Yay! Preity Zinta won the Walt Disney Children's Award for her role in Dil Chahta Hai! Cool. But this award makes no sense whatsoever! I think they gave her the award cuz they like her as much as I do! Haha. Well then let's give her a few more awards like an Oscar, a Nobel Prize, and maybe a Pulitzer too! Haha...

If you are my sister, cousin, relative, or any girl I know well in India, smile... I'm gonna bring you lots of neat stuff :) I just came back from the Revlon Corporate Store at Edison and I bought a whole lot of things for everyone! Now I know it's not 'manly' of me (rather kinda gay) to admit that I actually went to a Revlon store shopping for lipsticks, mascara, lip-gloss, nail polish and god knows what else, but well... it's all for the people I love... so smile :) Hope the guys will ignore this incident. Haha.

Amidst all the interesting links above, I forgot to mention that I went on a spending spree today! I bought myself three new t-shirt (VERY VERY cheap) and a neat new tiny AM-FM radio :) The radio cost me like $8 and the t-shirts were for $2-$3 each. Not bad huh?

When I go to Bombay within a month, I wanna see Everest - IMAX Movie in Wadala. Seriously. It's almost as cool as these Japanese scientists who just built 'Earth Simulator' - world's fastest supercomputer. I guess they will use it to predict Earth's climate, crust, and Godzilla's return! Haha...

Back home! Ah... Tired obviously. Anyways, these guys are heroes! They have found a way to perform kidney transplants between people of different blood types! Meaning it is no longer required to have the exact same match! Out of 29 trials, 27 were successful. That's a VERY high success rate. These guys deserve a Nobel prize. Seriously. Interestingly, while modern medicine is making great progress, ancient Indian medications, like Ayurveda, are gaining worldwide acceptance too. Makes me proud :)
